What the desk covered today, with the real reporting behind it. The jokes are ours; the facts are checkable.
Dale Bearman: “Ueda talks, the yen wobbles, and the whole system gets one day closer to the bunker. I've already packed the tea. It's frothy, Kenji. Even the tea knows.”
Dale Bearman: “Rescue deal, he says. Rescue. Every deal is a rescue until it's a crater. I do love a crater.”
Dale Bearman: “Down point one three, and I've never been happier. It's a tiny crack in the dam, and I will be watching it with a flask and a lawn chair. Hank, please don't take my bunker key.”
Brock Thunderson: “That's the weather, and I'm sure it's fine. Kenji, back to you at the desk, and please wash that salad spinner.”
Kenji Moonfield: “Bitcoin is down zero point seven nine percent at eighty-five thousand eight hundred. Which is basically a rounding error, or half a house. Same thing.”
Kenji Moonfield: “And in the Americas, Bovespa is up two point six three percent, Mexico up one point one. Honestly, Brazil is having a better night than my last three relationships combined.”
Dale Bearman: “Meanwhile, Hang Seng is up zero point zero five percent and Shanghai is up zero point three one. That's not a rally, that's a sleepy hiccup. Nifty is down a hair, and honestly, I'm cheering for the hair.”
Dale Bearman: “Everything's an acquisition at the top, Kenji. Four deals in one night is the bubble clearing its throat before it vomits on the carpet.”
Dale Bearman: “Europe is up too. The DAX is up one point one seven percent, the Stoxx 50 up one percent. Everyone is dancing on the deck of the Titanic, and I brought my own lifeboat. It has a minibar.”
Dale Bearman: “I do, I really do. U.S. futures are flat, with the S and P down point zero three percent. That's the calm before the storm, or it's just a calm. Either way, I've packed snacks.”
Dale Bearman: “Debt, Kenji. Lovely, lovely debt. Investing.com calls it a sign of M and A confidence. I call it a man buying a boat the week before the flood.”
Kenji Moonfield: “Europe is green too. The DAX is up one point one seven percent, the CAC up point seven nine, and the FTSE up point three two. London is basically a sleepy cat that stretched.”
Kenji Moonfield: “Djokovic is thirty-nine and still cooking. Meanwhile I get winded opening a bag of chips. Somebody check on my cardio, Gloria. Actually, don't.”
Kenji Moonfield: “Investing dot com says Taiwan's Weighted index closed up two point four six percent. Chip stocks are partying and I'm eating cereal out of a mixing bowl. Different vibes, same two a.m.”
Chip Darnell: “Hank, nobody tell Weird Al! He'll hear it in his sleep and fight a man in a parking lot! Honestly, I'm now stuck humming a penalty flag. Please send help.”
Chip Darnell: “Two hundred eight point nine million yuan, or thirty-one point two million dollars! That is a lot of popcorn. Somebody in that theater absolutely spilled a large soda on a stranger and I respect it.”
Kenji Moonfield: “Reuters says India's IT stocks gained after Accenture's outlook lifted sentiment for outsourcing names. Finally, somebody got good news and did not immediately lose it in a hoodie.”
Dr. Nina Byte: “Microsoft is up point eight six percent too. The WSJ's angle is that budget shocks could cool tech enthusiasm. Whoever is writing this script, I see you. You gave me the spreadsheet story on purpose.”
Brock Thunderson would like you to be afraid.
